Hering’s Law of Cure is the basis of all healing.

This is the way the body heals or cures itself. Consider this: All cure starts from within out, from the head down and in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared or been suppressed. We don’t catch diseases, we create them by breaking down the natural defenses according to the way we eat, drink, think and live.

The definition of Hering’s Law of Cure is as follows: “We heal from the head down, we heal from within out.”

This means we must allow the body to cleanse. In order for the body to eliminate toxins it must be allowed to do so by not suppressing any kind of discharge. Most over-the-counter medications and prescriptions do suppress discharges. This is not good as these toxins can go deeper into the body and create other weaknesses. The body must be allowed to cleanse itself in whatever manner it needs to without interruption by synthetic suppressive substances.

“We heal in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared or been suppressed”. This means that most of the time the last problem someone has is the first problem to be dealt with by the body in the reversal process. For instance, let’s say the last illness you had was a sinus infection and a suppressive medication was used to stop any sneezing, coughing, dripping nose or sinus drainage.
In order for the body to heal itself it must eliminate these toxins and mucous that were suppressed at this time. Since this was the last illness it is the easiest for the body to heal. The body may stimulate the Immune System to create a fever to burn out the toxins, the toxins may be eliminated through the Lungs or Bronchioles causing a large amount of phlegm to exit these areas, it might eliminate them through the skin causing breakouts or it could eliminate them through the Colon in which case mucous, old feces and food that hasn’t been eaten for quite a while may be eliminated. These are just a few ways the body heals itself.

Unfortunately, Hering’s Law of Cure is not used today in Orthodox medicine. Orthodox medicine generally believes that because the symptoms are suppressed the problem is cured, or by removing the organ, which is not functioning correctly, it can cure the problem. Perhaps this is why no one knows what a “cold” is today. A “cold” is the body’s way of eliminating toxins, which it does by increasing the mucous from the mucous membranes in order to free the toxins. Toxin elimination is imperative in order for the body to stay healthy. Disease reversal is also imperative in order for the body to “cure” a disease.

Things to consider with Hering’s Law of Cure:

• Symptoms of a chronic disease disappear in definite order, going in reverse and taking about one month for every year the symptoms have been present.
• Symptoms move from the more vital organs to the less vital organs; from the interior of the body towards the skin.
• Symptoms move from the top of the body downward.
• This means that before we can even begin to heal we must believe we can heal. We must be mentally prepared and strong in order to allow the body to heal. We must not doubt the body’s ability to heal itself.
• Hering’s Law is a very important law to understand and remember. It is imperative to follow this law in order to allow the body to eliminate toxins created daily.

Always remember, “We don’t catch diseases, we create them by breaking down the natural defenses according to the way we eat, drink, think and live.”

microwave-1280x840.jpg

Before you go to reheat something in the microwave, take a look at these 10 facts…

We can no longer ignore the dangers of the microwave sitting in our kitchens. Many research has been done through Swiss, Russian, and German scientific clinical studies proving to the immediate dangers of these appliances.

Here are 10 Reasons (based on the alarming research) to Throw Out Your Microwave Oven:
  1. Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term – permanent brain damage by “shorting out” electrical impulses in the brain (de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue)
  2. The human body cannot metabolize (break down) the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.
  3. Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.
  4. The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual (long-term, permanent) within the human body.
  5. Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.
  6. The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.
  7. Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths (tumors). This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.
  8. The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
  9. Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.
  10. Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

So what are you waiting for? Go toss out that microwave oven right out!

MASTER YOUR HEALTH

When I first meet with new clients, I have them go through a checklist so I can get a better sense of what wellness journey they want to embark on. Since I have such a plethora of services and topics I discuss, it’s helpful for me to narrow down some of these topics from the beginning.

I wanted to give all of my blog readers a SNEAK PEEK of this checklist, so you get an idea of what I am capable of helping you with! Taking control of your health and wellbeing is the best thing you can do for yourself, and I’d be honored to guide you through your new lifestyle.

Check out the checklist here!

Nutritional “myths” and why following them can be dangerous to your health. One of my favorite topics because these myths can be so detrimental to health and often people have no idea…

  • The truth about cholesterol and saturated fats
  • The truth about soy
  • Is milk or fortified orange juice really a healthy source of calcium?
  • Is there such a thing as too much grain in your diet?

The “One Size Fits All” approach to nutrition and why it doesn’t work. Everybody is different. Read that again. EveryBODY is different…

  • Origin of the nutritional technology, known as Metabolic Typing
  • Eating a primitive diet (closest to how are ancestors ate),  can give us the most health benefits

Comparison of eating styles & how to make your eating style work for you. Food is fuel. Once you realize that your eating experience changes exponentially.

  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan (the dangers of eating too much soy)
  • Whole Foods
  • Metabolic Typing

Understanding macronutrients – your body’s source of fuel. Do you know what a macronutrient is? Most people don’t. I’m here to change that.

  • Carbohydrates and their glycemic load
  • Sugar and Artificial Sweeteners
  • The importance of fats
  • The importance of animal protein

10 tips on how to reach your weight loss goals and maintain them for life. Another one of my favorites to work through!

  • Review of “blocking factors” – what is getting in your way (physical, emotional, mental  – internal and external stress factors).
  • Menu building / how to shop and plan

Hormones and your health. We all have internal and external stresses in our life. How we overcome these and take control of our hormones is what is available to us.

  • How to overcome the affects of stress and hormonal imbalance

Digestion and your health. So important, yet so infrequently talked about.

  • A review of digestive disorders, how rampant they are, and how you can heal your digestive system.
I hope you found this checklist interesting! If you would like to learn more about any of the above topics, I’d love to hear from you. Simply submit a Contact Form on my website.

September means Self-Care Awareness Month!

Self-care is a hot topic these days as mental health and wellness become more of a prominent focus in society. Everyone has different ideas about what self-care is, and that’s OK considering relaxation can mean something different to everyone. Some of my clients thrive in a relaxing setting, where others experience peak anxiety. For some, the body resting means the brain racing with all of the things they could and should be doing. I’m going to share some of my favorite forms of self-care, so that hopefully you can relax and take advantage of this extra time for yourself, regardless of where you currently fall on the self-care spectrum.

1.) Eat well

Greens, greens & more greens!

I say it time and time again, but so many of our underlying issues stem from our diet and how we take care of our bodies. The idea of self-care simply means taking care of yourself, so next time you find yourself reaching for the bag of chips or your go-to comfort food, attempt to choose one of the healthier options instead. Check out one of my blogs for recipe ideas for juices, smoothies, and other alternative snack options.

Another way to take care of yourself is to limit your alcohol consumption, or opt for less sugary cocktail options.

2.) Exercise

Move that body of yours!

How many times have you dreaded starting a workout only to feel like one million bucks after you finished it? Endorphins are SO special. Obviously exercising is beneficial to our overall health, but it’s arguably just as beneficial for your mental state.

Exercise doesn’t need to mean an intense HIIT workout for it to qualify as self-care. Anything you can do to actively move your body will make a huge difference for  – stretch your body, take your dog on a long walk around the neighborhood,

Next time you find yourself stressing over your never ending to-do list, make an effort to exercise. I guarantee you it will clear your head and re-energize you to do whatever it is you need to do.

3.) Sleep

The key to a well-balanced lifestyle!

We often overlook how truly important sleep is. If we’re not getting enough sleep at night, we’re not able to start the day as our best selves. I recommend following a consistent sleep routine by setting new sleep goals. Getting into bed at the same time every night is a good start. Another pro tip is to replace any electronics before bedtime – try to replace that iPhone with a new hardcover book! Reading is yet another of my favorite self-care methods.

4.) Find a New Hobby

Try new things until something sticks!

As adults, we are often so busy with our everyday lives (work, family, etc.) that we forget to take time to do things that make us HAPPY. It’s so important to take a step back and re-find those hobbies that you once loved, or maybe instead trying something you’ve always wanted to do.

Some hobbies I recommend include yoga, meditation, hiking, cooking, gardening, dancing.

5.) Set Boundaries & Start Saying NO

You don’t have to do everything…

One way we can practice self-care is by simply saying no to things we DON’T WANT TO DO! Again, as adults we are faced with many obstacles and long lists of things we feel like we ‘should’ do because society says so. Start taking a greater look at the things that fill your cup, instead of drain it.

Feel like you can’t possibly socialize after the long week you had at work? Cancel those plans, draw a bath, and light a candle. You’ll thank yourself the next day.

There are so many ways we can practice self-care, but these are just a few to get you started on your journey to a happier, healthier life. Start showing up for yourself so that you can show up as a greater self for those around you!

I look forward to hearing your favorite ways that YOU take care of yourself…

How I Helped a Client Take Control of Her Heath: Client Testimonial

I form a special connection with all my clients, but some client stories resonate with me more than others. One in particular was one of my younger patients named Lauren, who came to me two years after giving birth to her first child. Please note, client’s name has been changed to respect her privacy.

When Lauren sought out my help, she was truly at her wit’s end. Two years post-partum she was struggling with chronic fatigue, depression, weight gain / inability to lose weight, constipation, and digestive issues. After many visits to the doctor to find the root of the problem, she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease. In general, this means her immune system is attacking the thyroid which in turn results in inflammation leading to excess thyroid hormones, or hyperthyroidism. Over time, this inflammation prevents the thyroid from producing enough hormones, meaning hypothyroidism. Because of this many people, including Lauren, have struggle maintaining a healthy weight.

Following the diagnosis, Lauren was put on thyroid medication and sent on her way, as is the case in many traditional doctor-patient relationships. Unfortunately, Lauren’s various symptoms did not subside with the intake of the medication. Frustrated and determined to find an answer, she continued seeking out medical attention only to be told the same thing by multiple different endocrinologists: “You just aren’t trying hard enough, we’ll increase the dosage of your medication.” This is the terrible reality of many people struggling with health conditions, but fortunately for Lauren my approach turned her life around.

When Lauren came to me and explained everything she had been struggling with, I was shocked that none of the doctors and endocrinologists had investigated it further. Lauren had been struggling with chronic constipation issues for her entire life, never realizing how she was feeling was abnormal.

Today, after working closely with me and taking complete advantage of my services, Lauren is living her happiest and healthiest life. She has replaced her prescription thyroid medication completely with diet and supplements, which gives her the energy she needs to keep up with her energizer-bunny three-year-old all day! In addition, she has lost 40 pounds and has corrected all the digestive issues she came to me with, which makes a huge difference in how she feels.

Unlike her first pregnancy, Lauren didn’t have to worry about the threat of gestational diabetes during her second childbirth. In fact, she went through that pregnancy feeling healthier than ever – a complete difference from the first time around!

“Aubrey’s extensive knowledge and guidance has quite honestly changed my life and I feel more control over my health than I ever have before.”

Inspired by this client testimonial? Reach out to see how I can help you take control of your health and live your happiest life!

Remember this on your next trip down the produce aisle…

During discussions of nutrition and clean eating, my clients often seek my advice regarding whether they should be purchasing organic or conventional foods at the grocery store. Whenever possible, I always like to recommend organic foods; however, I understand this is not always realistic due to a variety of reasons including budget, access to organic stores, etc. Fortunately, you don’t have to purchase all organic produce to reduce your risk for chemical contamination and pesticides.

Every year the Environmental Working Group releases two lists called the Dirty Dozen™ and the Clean Fifteen™. The Dirty Dozen™ contains the 12 items most likely contaminated with pesticides. These are not necessarily items you need to avoid or stop purchasing altogether, but where they are deemed the ‘dirtier’ of the bunch, it’s important to pay closer attention to these items and really evaluate the source of purchase.

On the other hand, the Clean Fifteen™ list includes the 15 items least likely contaminated with pesticides. These are the more reliable, trustworthy options, regardless of where you are shopping.

Take a look at these lists below – I think you’ll be shocked at some of this year’s picks!

Dirty Dozen™ – EWG’s 2021 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale, collard and mustard greens
  4. Nectarines
  5. Apples
  6. Grapes
  7. Cherries
  8. Peaches
  9. Pears
  10. Bell and hot peppers
  11. Celery
  12. Tomatoes

Clean Fifteen™ – EWG’s 2021 Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™

  1. Avocados
  2. Sweet corn
  3. Pineapple
  4. Onions
  5. Papaya
  6. Sweet peas (frozen)
  7. Eggplant
  8. Asparagus
  9. Broccoli
  10. Cabbage
  11. Kiwi
  12. Cauliflower
  13. Mushrooms
  14. Honeydew melon
  15. Cantaloupe

Interested in these lists, but still need a little help planning your next grocery run? I am a functional nutrition and wellness consultant and would be happy to assist further! I’m available for in person or remote consultations. Reach out anytime.

sugar-cravings-1280x853.jpg

As a functional nutrition and wellness consultant and coach, clients often come to me feeling tired with weight to lose and big sugar cravings! I work with them on a personalized plan to achieving and maintaining their ideal weight as well as feeling more energy and that often starts with these 10 steps. Every BODY is different, but these steps are a good starting point for anyone.

  1. Be mindful of combining your meals with a Protein, Fat, and Carbohydrate. Carbohydrates should primarily come from vegetables.
  2. Buy grass fed meats and organic grains and produce as much as possible. You’ll  want to avoid assimilating the harmful chemicals often used in conventional farming and processed foods. If consumed  in high amounts, your body will create additional water and fat cells to store them in  order to protect your vital organs.
  3. Try to go grain free for a minimum of three months. This will force you to eat more vegetables and to stay away from the addictive high starchy comfort food grains  provide – not to mention the inflammatory affect gluten can have on the body.
  4. Try to go dairy free for a minimum of three months. Pasteurized dairy has little nutritional value and is therefore fattening. In addition, dairy contains a protein called Casein, which can contribute to inflammation in the body.
  5. Minimize or avoid alcohol and carbonated beverages, both of which in excess, can create mineral deficiencies and lead to digestive issues as well as water retention.
  6. Avoid Synthetic Sweeteners. Use raw honey, Grade B Maple Sugar, or palm sugar if  necessary.
  7. Drink more water – Drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water per day.
  8. Be mindful of eating. Chew your food slowly. Eat only until you’re not hungry  anymore. Stop before you’re full. Try not to go 4 hours without any food – this will  slow down metabolism and contribute to food cravings and over-eating.
  9. Eat more raw! If you haven’t already, invest in a VitaMix Blender. This will allow you to  blend a variety of vegetables and fruit into a delicious smoothie. One of my favorite recipes is 1 apple, 1 cucumber, a handful of spinach, 1-inch cube of fresh ginger root and 1 TBS of coconut oil. This recipe would make 2-servings and could be  consumed as a meal with a healthy protein on the side.
  10. Learn Your Metabolic Type.

Have questions or want to get started on your path to more energy and less sugar cravings? Reach out, I’d love to hear from you.

client-journey-living-balance-wellness-aubrey-thompson-1.jpg

My client Amy had been on antidepressants for years and just generally had a “feeling of disease” when we started working together years ago. Today, she feels great – grateful and thriving while completely medication free. So what is it like to work with a Functional Nutrition and Wellness Consultant? She was recently interviewed to talk about her journey with me. Client’s name has been changed for privacy.

So why did you start working with Aubrey?
I was familiar with functional medicine and had already been looking for someone with that expertise – I found her through a mutual friend who had recommended her. I had a general feeling of disease. I was coming off of antidepressants for what had been years. I was emotional and not feeling great.

What did you and Aubrey do first?
We sat down and went over the entire program, did a chakra cleansing, and then she moved right into the plan. I found her very open, friendly, and informative – she knew what she was talking about.

What did the first few weeks like?
I’m going to be honest, they were pretty intense! We went over foods to avoid and foods to eat more of. We went over supplements. It was a re-education process, as far as to look out for things I was sensitive to. I was diagnosed with a gluten intolerance in 2000, but I never paid attention to it. Aubrey worked with me on that and also suggested eliminating dairy – I felt a huge difference from doing that.

Did you have challenges with the program?
I resisted at first, but Aubrey pushes you and that’s what I needed. I wanted someone to give me that extra push rather than coddle me. I was really willing to put in the effort so that I could get results – and I have. Aubrey is also great at working out a system where the program is manageable for your lifestyle. She gives you a few things to work on at the same time and then reevaluates things every few weeks. She’s very responsive, accommodating to me schedule, and very accessible.

How long did it take to get results?
I would say about 6 months. Getting my gut in order was a big challenge. I had previously had foods in my diet that weren’t healthy. I had to eliminate foods that were inflammatory for me like nightshades and cashews. It was really like peeling layers off an onion.

What other a-ha moments have you had from the Living Balance Wellness program?
I switched from wine to vodka and tequila (in moderation) and that made a huge difference. I was able to recognize how to go gluten-free without the processed and high sugar products.

How are you today?
It’s been a few years of working with her. I’ve shifted a lot and I have to say I feel very good. I’m very aware of what’s working for me. I’m grateful to Aubrey because she’s educated me a lot. I’m thriving. And I’m completely off all medication.

Can I help you THRIVE? Get in touch today – I’d love to hear from you, no matter where you are on your wellness journey.
